Monday 6/21/2048: Washington's Boeing wins Player of the Week award
Washington's third baseman Billy Boeing had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Sluggers League Player of the Week. Boeing helped his team with an average of .393 and 8 RBI in 28 at bats. While compiling an on base percentage of .427, Billy hit .346 and slugged .890. He has collected 84 runs batted in this year. He's 5th in the Sluggers League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI! It's the 1st time that the Hurlers League Player of the Week award goes to Denver's rightfielder Juan Hardy. Juan went 10 for 22 (.455), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 12 RBI. Hardy has hit 16 bombs this year while batting .242. He adds 10 doubles, along with 28 runs scored. He's 7th in the Hurlers League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns!
 
Thursday 6/17/2048: Lexington's Ismael Salazar pounds five hits
MEMPHIS - Ismael Salazar is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a double. In the 2nd inning he belted a double off James Bottomly. His 5th hit, off Herman Broadus in the 6th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in center field. He collected singles in the 4th and in the 5th . Ismael scored 4 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! He now has a total of 46 hits this season, accounting for a .280 batting average. Lexington improved its record to 50-18, scoring 16 runs on 18 hits.
 
Wednesday 6/16/2048: Savannah has no chance in a 2-hitter by Hans Swartz
SAVANNAH - Georgia's left-hander Hans Swartz is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Savannah on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 2nd time he has done it in his career. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Swartz (6-4) struck out 4 and walked none, throwing 72 of 106 pitches for strikes. Nelson Parisi provided Georgia with the offense Swartz needed as he stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, with 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Monday 6/14/2048: Memphis' Gagliardi wins Player of the Week award
The Sluggers League's best player of the week was Memphis' John Gagliardi, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. John went 12 for 29 (.414), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 13 RBI. Gagliardi has hit for a .306 average this season. He has 27 extra base hits along with 111 total bases, resulting in a .500 slugging percentage. It's the 4th time that the Hurlers League Player of the Week award goes to North Shore's first baseman Philip Ahmad. Philip pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .542 with 2 HR and 9 RBI while slugging .917. His season features a batting average of .343 (62 hits in 181 AB), 11 doubles, 2 triples and 4 homeruns. Ahmad collected 26 RBI and 22 runs as well.
 
Thursday 6/10/2048: Brent Gibbs blanks Maine with a 2-hitter
MAINE - Brent Gibbs had some fun again. Maine hitters did not. New York's southpaw gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 19 career shutouts in 407 games started. Gibbs (10-4) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 3, throwing 108 pitches. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Timothy Marchan provided New York with the offense Gibbs needed as he went 2 for 4, homering once, doubling once, with 3 RBI. New York scored 5 runs on 12 hits.
 
Wednesday 6/9/2048: Maine's Connor out for the season
MAINE - Maine's shortstop Jason Connor will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Maine and Indianapolis. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Connor collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Connor was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Thigh Muscle. Jason has gone 69 for 210 (.329) this season, hitting 4 longballs and driving in 25 runs. He has scored 43 runs on his own. He's 7th in the Hurlers League in batting!
 
Monday 6/7/2048: Raymond Winn on fire, laces five hits
WASHINGTON - Raymond Winn is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a RBI double. In the 2nd inning he belted a RBI double off William Jacobs. In the 4th inning he belted a RBI double off William Jacobs. In the 9th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Cipri Larosa. Monday 6/7/2048: Player of the Week honors go to Gutierrez and Evans
The Player of the Week award in the Sluggers League goes to Lexington's Cesar Gutierrez this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .556 and hit .500, while driving in 9 runs. Gutierrez has walked 28 times this year and posts a .399 OBP. While batting .317, 65 for 205, he has driven in 42 runs. Connecticut's rightfielder David Evans had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Hurlers League Player of the Week. David pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .571 with 4 HR and 8 RBI while slugging 1.381. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! This year Evans drove in 45 and scored 29 runs while batting .301 with 10 taters.
 
Saturday 6/5/2048: Indianapolis' Quintanilla severely injured
INDIANAPOLIS - When it rains, it pours. Indianapolis' right-hander Lamar Quintanilla will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Montreal where he left the field in the 6th inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Quintanilla was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Lamar has a record of 5-1 this season, with an ERA of 2.70. In 83.1 Innings he was able to strike out 42 batters.
 
Tuesday 6/1/2048: Santa Fe's Chamberland earns Pitcher of the Month award
Winner of this months Sluggers League Pitcher of the Month award is Santa Fe's Gary Chamberland. His record of 5-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 44.1 innings of work he allowed just 30 hits while striking out 31, compiling an ERA of just 2.03. Opposing players hit .202 against Gary this season. While posting an ERA of 2.48 he went 5-1 in 9 starts, fanning 49 and walking 9 hitters. Las Vegas' Aaron Esqueda had a terrific May, and it earned him the Hurlers League Pitcher of the month award. He started 6 games in May, going 4-1 and compiling an ERA of 1.22 in 37 innings. Aaron fanned 42 hitters. This season Esqueda compiled an ERA of 1.57, going 7-3 in 12 starts. He fanned 66 while giving up 55 hits in 74.2 innings. He's 1st in the Hurlers League in ERA and 3rd in wins!

The Batter of the Month award in the Sluggers League goes to Washington's Billy Boeing this time, as the third baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .369 with 35 RBI and slugged .971 in 103 at bats. Billy is hitting .352 this year, with 64 hits in 182 at bats. He has driven in 60 runs, slugging .907. He's 7th in the Sluggers League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Jose Marpons Jr. of Cleveland wins his 1st Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the Hurlers League. Jose pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .402 with 3 and 18 RBI while slugging .701. Marpons Jr. has hit 6 longballs this year while batting .390. He adds 16 doubles, along with 28 runs scored.
 
Monday 5/31/2048: Cleveland's Reach wins Player of the Week award
Alex Arocha wins his 1st Player of the Week award. Sluggers League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Alex was on fire, hitting .381 with 5 HR and 8 RBI. His season features a batting average of .242 (43 hits in 178 AB), 16 doubles, no triples and 15 homeruns. Arocha collected 38 RBI and 32 runs as well. It's the 7th time that the Hurlers League Player of the Week award goes to Cleveland's rightfielder Randall Reach. He had an on base percentage of .522 and hit .500, while driving in 3 runs. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Reach has walked 6 times this year and posts a .291 OBP. While batting .263, 46 for 175, he has driven in 19 runs.
 
Saturday 5/29/2048: Lenard Thompson on fire, crushes three
VANCOUVER - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Mexico City's rightfielder Lenard Thompson accomplished that feat in a 18-9 win over Vancouver. Number 1 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 385 feet, cleared the wall in right field. His 2nd shot, off George Florio in the 8th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. A 394 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd bomb, a three-run homerun off Andrew Flintoff Jr. in the 9th inning. Lenard finished 4 for 6, scoring FOUR runs with 7 RBI. His homerun total this year is 17, along with 49 RBI. On 5/21/2048, Theodore Farrelly was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Mexico City scored 18 runs on 19 hits.
 
Thursday 5/27/2048: Denver's Dominguez out for 7 weeks
DENVER - Denver's second baseman Mickey Dominguez will miss at least 7 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Dominguez was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Inflamed Posterior Cruciate Ligament. Dominguez has hit 4 bombs this year while batting .293. He adds 11 doubles, along with 40 runs scored.

The Hurlers League's best player of the week was North Shore's Joshua Spry, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Spry helped his team with an average of .480 and 6 RBI in 25 at bats.

WASHINGTON - When it rains, it pours. Washington's right-hander Keith Williams will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Mexico City where he left the field in the 2nd inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Strained Elbow Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. Keith has a record of 5-3 this season, with an ERA of 4.20. In 49.1 Innings he was able to strike out 42 batters. He's 2nd in the Sluggers League in wins!
 
Friday 5/21/2048: Theodore Farrelly parks three against Mexico City
MEXICO CITY - Theodore Farrellywas in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Washington to a 13-7 win over Mexico City by homering three times. His 1st blast, a three-run homerun off Roman Hernandez in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 400 feet from home plate. His 2nd shot, a two-run homerun off Lino Ugarte in the 7th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. In the 9th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Quinton Malloy. Overall he collected 3 hits in 5 trips to the plate, scoring three runs and collecting 8 RBI. On 4/25/2048, Armando Dejesus was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game.
 
Friday 5/21/2048: Kermit Hudgens collects five hits against Minnesota
NEW ORLEANS - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said New Orleans' rightfielder Kermit Hudgens after the 13-4 win over Minnesota. His 1st hit was a double off Damaso Rivera in the 1st inning. In the 3rd inning he belted a double off Damaso Rivera. In the 4th inning he belted a double off Edwin Brill. A pitch from Robert Monette in the 6th inning left his bat for a RBI double. In the 8th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Magalei Logovi'i. Kermit scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 61 hits in 169 at bats, resulting in a .361 batting average.
 
Monday 5/17/2048: Tulsa's Giles out for 4-5 weeks
TULSA - Tulsa's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, third baseman Adam Giles, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 4-5 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Calf Muscle which will require surgery. Adam is hitting .315 this year, with 47 hits in 149 at bats. He has driven in 11 runs, slugging .456.

He's 1st in the Sluggers League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Andrew Myler wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. Hurlers League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. CLEVELAND - Cleveland's shortstop Andre Girard will miss at least 6 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. SAN FRANCISCO - It was a great day for Denver's left-hander Rafael Velez. The 25-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against San Francisco on Sunday. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Velez (3-3) struck out 4 and walked 4, throwing 66 of 120 pitches for strikes. Mickey Dominguez provided Denver with the offense Velez needed as he collected 3 hits in 5 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, scoring two runs. The final score of the game was 9-0.
 
Thursday 5/13/2048: Erwin Blackwell (PHO) will miss 6-7 weeks
PHOENIX - When it rains, it pours. Phoenix's right-hander Erwin Blackwell will not pitch for at least 6-7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Mexico City where he left the field in the 4th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Tricep Muscle. His season numbers are: .255 AVG, 24 hits, 2 doubles, 2 triples and 6 homeruns, along with 19 RBI and 21 runs scored. He's 8th in the Hurlers League in RBIs and 5th in homeruns!
 
Saturday 5/8/2048: Saskatchewan's Hazard severely injured
SASKATCHEWAN - Saskatchewan's pitcher Lee Hazard was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 8th inning of the game between Saskatchewan and New Orleans. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Hazard will miss about 4-5 weeks. Broken Jaw was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Lee has a record of 1-0 this season, with an ERA of 2.25. In 20 Innings he was able to strike out 14 batters.
 
Friday 5/7/2048: Jack Andian collects 2000th hit against North Shore
TULSA - Tulsa's Jack Andian showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against North Shore on Saturday. With no outs in the 8th inning, Jack drilled a two run homerun, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. Along with his 2000 hits, Jack collected 98 homeruns and 850 RBI in 14 seasons. 'You dream about that as a kid, but when you reach such a milestone it's hard to believe. Fantastic.'
 
Monday 5/3/2048: James Kephart out for 4-5 weeks
MINNESOTA - Minnesota is without its right-hander James Kephart for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Vincent Vega in a game against Savannah. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Strained Back Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. James has a record of 2-2 this season, with an ERA of 4.85. In 13 Innings he was able to strike out 8 batters.
 
Monday 5/3/2048: Brooker (SSK) and Curiel (CLE) win monthly pitcher award
Alexander Brooker pitched like a legend in April, and the Sluggers League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His ERA of just 1.77 helped him to a 4-0 record in April. He worked 35.2 innings, striking out 37 hitters while walking 8. Winner of this months Hurlers League Pitcher of the Month award is Cleveland's Derrick Curiel. His record of 3-0 in 3 was among the leagues best this month. In 22 innings of work he allowed just 10 hits while striking out 17, compiling an ERA of just 1.23.
 
Saturday 5/1/2048: Minnesota's Kojuro earns Batter of the Month award
Minnesota's first baseman Ryuichi Kojuro had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Sluggers League Batter of the Month. In 94 at bats he hit .436 with 8 HR and 24 RBI. Las Vegas' first baseman Philip Ahmad had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Hurlers League Batter of the Month. Philip pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .450 with 1 and 15 RBI while slugging .588.
 
Saturday 5/1/2048: Georgia's Barkley earns Pitcher of the Month award
Robert Barkley pitched like a legend in April, and the Sluggers League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He struck out 26 hitters in his 4 starts, putting together a record of 3-1 while pitching 26 innings. His ERA in April was 0.93. New York's Phil Connors had a terrific April, and it earned him the Hurlers League Pitcher of the month award. He went 5-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 1.04. He struck out 37 in 34.2 innings.
 
Saturday 5/1/2048: Dejesus (LEX) and Goodman (DEN) win monthly award
The Sluggers League's best player of the month was Lexington's Armando Dejesus, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Armando pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .341 with 12 and 27 RBI while slugging .784. The Batter of the Month award in the Hurlers League goes to Denver's Weston Goodman this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Weston was on fire, hitting .306 with 10 homeruns and 27 RBI.
 
Monday 4/26/2048: Lexington's Gutierrez wins Player of the Week award
It's the 5th time that the Sluggers League Player of the Week award goes to Lexington's first baseman Cesar Gutierrez. He hit .500 with 5 RBI and slugged 1.208 in 24 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! It's the 11th time that the Hurlers League Player of the Week award goes to New York's rightfielder Arturo Marra. In 22 at bats he hit .545 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Arturo is hitting .378 this year, with 28 hits in 74 at bats. He has driven in 13 runs, slugging .676. He's 4th in the Hurlers League in batting!

A 434 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Feige Berkowitz in the 5th inning. A pitch from Melvin Hicklin in the 9th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 433 feet from home plate in left-center. Armando went 4 for 4, scoring FOUR times with 5 RBI.
 
Sunday 4/25/2048: New Orleans' Tarrant out for 8 weeks
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans is without its ace Joseph Tarrant for at least 8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Hector Esteves in a game against Vancouver. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Bone Chips Shoulder. Surgery will be performed next week. His ERA of 2.90 helped him to a 2-0 record this year. He struck out 21 and walked 11 in 31 innings. Joseph has pitched one shutout and one complete game. He's 7th in the Sluggers League in ERA and 6th in wins!

MONTREAL - Montreal's shortstop George Johnson will miss about 5 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 3rd inning of the game between Montreal and Tulsa. He fielded a ball off the bat of Poodle Discorro, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. After being taken to a local hospital, Johnson was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Bicep Muscle. Johnson has walked 10 times this year and posts a .369 OBP. While batting .255, 14 for 55, he has driven in 6 runs.
 
Friday 4/23/2048: Las Vegas' Olivar out for 8 weeks
LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas' season took a blow when Cedrick Olivar suffered a serious injury in the game against Milwaukee. He was hurt when ge got bowled over in a scary collision at home plate. Olivar will probaby miss 8 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Wrist. Surgery will be performed next week. He has hit one longball while batting .444 this season. His 20 hits and 8 walks add up to a .537 on-base percentage. He's 2nd in the Hurlers League in batting!
 
Tuesday 4/20/2048: Jim Bowers dominates Denver, gives up just 2 hits
DENVER - Jim Bowers took the mound and never left. And Denver hitters couldn't touch him at all. Connecticut's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 9 career shutouts in 211 games started. Bowers (3-1) struck out 7 and issued 3 BB, throwing 67 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Chadwick Barrera helped Bowers at the plate, he finished 1 for 4, stroking a double, and collecting 2 RBI. Connecticut improved its record to 7-9, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits.

New Orleans' second baseman Theodore Steadham had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Sluggers League Player of the Week. Theodore went 16 for 33 (.485), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 6 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. The Hurlers League Player of the Week award goes to Weston Goodman, Denver's starting leftfielder. He had an on base percentage of .500 and hit .435, while driving in 10 runs.
 
Sunday 4/18/2048: Georgia's Vega out for 6 weeks
GEORGIA - Georgia's centerfielder Vic Vega will miss about 6 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 8th inning of the game between Georgia and Savannah. He dove for a drive off the bat of Zackary Heider, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Ribs which will require surgery. His season features a batting average of .275 (11 hits in 40 AB), one double, one triple and no longballs. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Herniated Disc Back which will require surgery.

LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas is without its right-hander Keiichi Honzo for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Jarvis McClure in a game against San Francisco. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Honzo was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Bicep Muscle.
 
Tuesday 4/13/2048: James Metts out for 6 weeks
WASHINGTON - When it rains, it pours. Washington's right-hander James Metts will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Minnesota where he left the field in the 6th inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery.
 
Tuesday 4/13/2048: Phoenix's Cookson severely injured
PHOENIX - Phoenix's Bennie Cookson suffered a serious injury Tuesday in a game against Santa Fe. Cookson fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 6 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Foot.
 
Monday 4/12/2048: Hudgens (NO) and Peck (IND) win P.O.W. award
It's the 2nd time that the Sluggers League Player of the Week award goes to New Orleans' rightfielder Kermit Hudgens. He hit .538 with 8 RBI and slugged .923 in 26 at bats. The Hurlers League's best player of the week was Indianapolis' Temepleton Peck, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Peck helped his team with an average of .586 and 8 RBI in 29 at bats.
 
Sunday 4/11/2048: Lexington's Sabino Olivas has great day with five hits
SAVANNAH - Lexington's second baseman Sabino Olivas accomplished a difficult feat in a 11-0 win over Savannah, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .300! A 353 foot drive to right field marked his 1st hit, a solo homerun off Barron Vangor Toth in the 1st inning. Number 5 in the 8th inning, a shot estimated at 407 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. He had singles in the 3rd inning , in the 4th and in the 6th inning . Sabino scored 2 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .308. Lexington scored 11 runs on 16 hits.
 
Saturday 4/10/2048: Player of the Week honors go to Hudgens and Kojuro
It's the 1st time that the Sluggers League Player of the Week award goes to New Orleans' rightfielder Kermit Hudgens. In 29 at bats he hit .448 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. The Hurlers League's best player of the week was Denver's Ryuichi Kojuro, who wins the award for the 18th time in his career. In 23 at bats he hit .522 with 2 HR and 8 RBI.
 
Tuesday 4/6/2048: Christopher Cavin fires 1-hitter against Georgia
GEORGIA - Memphis' right-hander Christopher Cavin will never forget this day. The 26-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Georgia on Friday. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Cavin (1-0) struck out 6 and walked 1, throwing 55 of 97 pitches for strikes. Patrick Douglas helped Cavin at the plate, he went 3 for 5, doubling once, scoring two runs and driving in 2 runs. Memphis improved its record to 3-1, scoring 8 runs on 13 hits.
